Journalist Maria Netrebenko – awardee of “Living Taiga” contest.


Maria became one of the winners of the far-east competition for environmental journalists. The jury acknowledged her top position in “Wildlife Sanctuary” nomination. Although Masha has only spent six months in Kamchatka her influence on the people-wildlife relations was significant. Her reports from South Kamchatka Federal Sanctuary and Kronotsky reserve grabbed attention of both Kamchatka locals and people all over Russia. 

Before arriving in Kamchatka Maria Netrebenko worked as a reporter in the regional branches of All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) in Primorsky Krai and Khabarovsk Krai, held live broadcasts in team with well-known russian journalist Sergei Brilyov and also travelled a lot. She dedicated much time and effort to reveal the bottlenecks of environmental topics. During six months she was the editor-in-chief of “Kamchatka” information agency. Maria has tragically died at the age of 29 on February 23rd, 2020.
