The “Sea of Life” krai ecological festival

16.04.2020
The festival of sea animals was first held in 2016 on the initiative of Kronotsky reserve and Association of specially protected natural areas of Kamchatka krai. In 2017 it got the status of the krai festival and it is conducted with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Kamchatka krai and sponsors from Kamchatka business-community.
The organizers of the festival focused on drawing attention of Kamchatka residents to the problem of the preservation of sea-otters, seals, whales, porpoises and other sea mammals that inhabit Kamchatka coastal waters. Poaching, non-rational harvesting, global climate change, transformation of the habitat led to the reduction of the populations of many sea-mammal species.
The festival took place in the central square of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for 4 years in succession. The most numerous guests of the festival are children and young people: pre-schoolers, pupils and students. However, people of different ages, professions and interests came to take part in the young ecological festival. They had a wide choice of activities: lectures about sea mammals and sea tourism, quests, creative workshops, sport games, an opportunity to participate in the creation of art-objectsв, virtual reality involving ocean inhabitants, scientific experiments and many others.
The festival has become not only a place of wonderful leisure time for residents and guests of the Kamchatka krai capital, but also a place of obtaining new knowledge and participation in the ecological life of the region. From year to year the festival attracts more and more enthusiasts of the nature conservation activity – people who love the nature of their native land and are ready to preserve it for future generations.
