Red salmon plenty for everyone: a detailed study of Kuril Lake ecosystem has been started

Large-scale studies of the lake ecosystem in Southern Kamchatsky Reserve have been started. The lake is the breeding place for Asia's largest herd of valuable wild salmon. The field work is carried out with the use of the latest technologies - hydroacoustic and aerial photography.

Large wildland fire eliminated in Koryaksky Reserve

For ten days special forces of the Primorskaya aviation, land and forest security base have been fighting the fire. They arrived at the call of the Forestry Agency of Kamchatka Krai. Also the employees of the Reserve and the crew of an MI-8 helicopter of the Vityaz-Aero airline supported them. The fire spread across more than 32,000 hectares. The cause of the fire has not been established yet, but one of the main versions is dry thunderstorms.

The hot spring formed in 2020 and continuously gushed to a height of up to 3 meters throughout the year now began to work in a geyser mode.

The Museum Night events took place at three locations

The visitors were welcomed on the premises of the ecological educational center of Kronotsky Nature Reserve at Yelizovo, at the ethno-ecological center of Koryak Nature Reserve in Tilichiki settlement, and at the visitor center in Ozernovsky settlement. All the visitors were told about the nature of the reserves, some geographic discoveries and daily routine of those working to preserve specially protected natural areas.

The number of helicopter excursions in the Uzon-Geyser area of the biosphere reserve has been reduced to a minimum. The annual conservation event is held in order to reduce the burden on the unique natural complexes and not to disturb the animals during the breeding season. The restrictions will remain in effect until the 30th of June.

Scientists: Kamchatka's wild reindeer are unique

This was revealed as a result of a genetic examination carried out in the laboratory of the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. Experts examined the DNA of animals from the largest group on the peninsula, which was preserved in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve.

The documentary “Nerka. The Red Fish" conquers the world

The movie about wild salmon has already received dozens of awards at film festivals in different countries. Wild salmon reproduce in the Kuril Lake on the territory of the South Kamchatka reserve and provide the well-being of the ecosystems of the South of Kamchatka and the inhabitants of fishing villages. The national premiere of the movie will take place on August 30th. The film was honored to close the 6th international documentary film festival "DOKer" in Moscow.
