Geographical Position
Kronotsky Reserve is situated in the southeastern part of the Kamchatka Peninsula: from Semyachensky Lagoon in the South to the mouth of Malaya Chazhma River in the North. These borders were determined in 1967. The reserve includes an area of the coast 243 km long. The approximate width of the reserve is 60 km. The geographic coordinates are 54°05' — 55°10' NL and 159°35' — 162° 10' LO. The total protected land area is 964,000 ha. The protection regime also extends to the three-mile-wide marine zone with a total area of 135,000 ha. The reserve is part of the Yelizovo Administrative District of Kamchatka Krai. The reserve headquarters is situated in Yelizovo.
In 1992, a 43,134 ha-parcel of conifer taiga forest was added to the reserve. Its coordinates are 55°05' — 55°20' NL and 159°55' — 160°25' LO. This area is in the Milkovo Administrative District of Kamchatka Krai.
As of today, the total area of the Kronotsky Reserve is 1,147,619.37 ha, including 1,012,619.37 ha of land and 135,000 ha of marine area.
